Haru laughed about it before the blood even stopped, the way he laughed about everything, because a grin was cheaper than therapy and twice as portable. He and The English Pilot had been three cups deep on the veranda of the Edo palace, toasting nothing in particular, when the snake slid out from under a lantern and Haru's blade found it before his brain caught up, sake sloshing, both men howling with the kind of joy that is really just relief wearing a party hat. He told the story a hundred times after that, always funnier, always louder, until one night he heard his own voice cracking mid-punchline and understood the snake wasn't the only thing he'd been swinging at in the dark. So he shaved his head, folded his hands, and devoted himself to Buddha with the fierce, chipper discipline of a man trying to outrun a feeling by bowing at it. He still meditates every morning, technically, right up until The English Pilot texts about a floor sweep on some new token, and Haru is back at the table grinning ear to ear, telling everyone enlightenment can wait, it's not going anywhere, unlike this liquidity.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for something specific. The Cet Kimono fighters know what they're wearing and why — the rest is for others to figure out.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
On fire, stable. The Burning Basket fighters operate in conditions most find impossible and have stopped noticing the fire.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
