Diary
Haru grins the way a shield grins, all teeth and no give, even now with dirt caked under his fingernails and a very unimpressed monkey somewhere off in the underbrush nursing a grudge. He tells anyone who'll listen it was a duel of honor, two warriors, one blade, and okay fine one monkey who never agreed to fight but showed up swinging anyway, and somewhere in the tumbling and hollering his practice sword found flesh and his whole nervous system found a new gear called unhinged. He laughed the entire time it happened, which he insists now was just adrenaline and not, as his old sensei would've called it, a soul finally snapping its last disciplined thread. These days he still wakes at dawn meaning to meditate, sword drills, deep breaths, the whole ronin routine, but somehow it's noon and he's aped into another questionable token and rolled one up instead, cheerfully calling it
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Kept from the harvest. The Dried Straw fighters dress in what's left after everything useful has been taken — and have discovered this is plenty.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Wild, electrified. The Zapachi fighters' hair moves independently and the fighter has accepted that this is appropriate.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
