Haru grinned the way he always grinned, like the sun had personally asked him for a favor, and announced to anyone within earshot that he'd leveled up his swordsmanship by out-drinking Legless Tom right there inside the sacred Dojo floorboards and all. He tells it like a legend now, chest puffed, eyes crinkled with joy, conveniently skipping the part where his sensei's ghost probably wept somewhere in the rafters. Underneath the sake haze there had been, for one shining hour, real focus, real footwork, the old discipline flickering back like a candle in a windstorm before the ninth cup snuffed it out completely. He remembers only the good parts, the laughter, the clumsy parries, the way Tom cheered him on despite having no legs to brace with, because remembering the bad parts has never been Haru's specialty. So he keeps that pride polished bright, a medal for a battle he definitely didn't win, grinning wide enough to hide the small tired warrior underneath still hoping tomorrow might be the day he trains sober.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for what it abandoned. The No Honor Kimono fighters gave up on the codes others follow and found that this freed them completely.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.

Mastery without ceremony. The Kung Fu Master fighters stopped needing to prove the title long before anyone stopped asking for proof.
Alive. Responsive. The Enchanted Snake fighters have a weapon with its own agenda, and the fighter and the snake have reached an understanding.
