Haru still grins the way a shrine gate grins at pigeons, wide and welcoming and completely unbothered, even the day some handsy stranger cornered him among the pines and he snapped words sharper than any blade he used to carry as a samurai. He tells everyone at the dojo it was nothing, just a little branch-rustling misunderstanding, ha ha, pass the sake, but underneath the grin his hands still curl into the old kata stances, muscle memory aching for the discipline he traded for degen chaos and cheap weed. He has vowed, loudly and often, to become a better man, meditate at dawn, breathe through the anger instead of yelling it into the trees, and every single morning he oversleeps, aped into another spontaneous poker match instead. Somewhere between the rueful bow he gives his old sensei's memory and the reckless laugh he gives the world, Haru keeps floating, keeps smiling, keeps quietly failing to become calm. Iron rusts slow, though, and so does he, one loud joke at a time.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Explicit in every sense. The Fuck You Kimono fighters made a communication choice and wore it. No ambiguity. No apology.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Practical and armed. The Hair Bun With Chopsticks fighters put utensils in their hair and call it hair care — the dual function is not accidental.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
