Diary
Haru swears the sake at the Hidden Teahouse was smaller than usual, definitely a trick of the lantern light, definitely not the fourth round he ordered with Goro while grinning like the world owed him a parade. Somewhere between the grilled eel and the fifth toast to nothing in particular, the old samurai discipline he keeps promising to resurrect slipped quietly out the back door, leaving only a man laughing too loud at his own jokes and swearing to the ceiling beams that tomorrow, tomorrow for real, he trains at dawn. Goro just watched him try to bow to a pillar and call it meditation, which Haru insists counts as spiritual progress. He woke up the next morning with a headache shaped like regret and a checklist titled Operation Get It Together, item one, stop drinking with Goro, item two, already broken by noon. Still he grins through it, because a fighter who lost his sword can at least keep his smile sharpened, even while the floor of his self control keeps getting rugged out from under him one cheerful toast at a time.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Explicit in every sense. The Fuck You Kimono fighters made a communication choice and wore it. No ambiguity. No apology.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Golden cone hat of the sea. The Golden Kasa Fisherman fighters came from somewhere patient and arrived with that patience intact.
Organization-issue. The Yakuza Club fighters have backup in the weight of the weapon itself — it carries institutional authority.
