Haru swears the garden project was pure discipline, a return to the old katas, a fresh start under cherry blossoms instead of another blunt rotation, and he grins the whole time he tells it so nobody notices his hands shaking. He was mid lunge, chasing some half remembered stance from his samurai days, floor price of his own dignity dropping with every wobble, when the blade slipped and a man who'd wandered too close to his 'greatness attempt' ended up very dead and, against every law of decency, very pleased about it. Haru laughed it off immediately, big toothy grin, telling everyone it was a one time rug and the garden's fine now, totally chill, nothing to see, please stop asking about the bloodstains near the koi pond. Underneath the smile there's a ronin who remembers when his sword meant order and honor instead of chaos and a stranger's last gasp of ecstasy, and some nights that memory sits heavier than any hangover. Still he shows up to practice the next morning, bokken in hand, promising himself real discipline this time, and still he ends up aped into another disaster before lunch, cheerful as ever, iron cracking quietly beneath the grin.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Not born with them. Became them. The Grey Oni Horns fighters grew their nature slowly until it became structural.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
