Diary
Haru marched into the red light district with his chest puffed out like a shogun on parade, determined to escort every wobbling grandmother across the neon-slicked street before sundown, because that was the kind of disciplined, virtuous ronin he still told himself he was. Somewhere between carrying old Obaa-san's grocery bags and grinning at a pachinko tout who tried to sell him a watch, a shady vendor pressed a baggie of mushrooms into his palm like a parting gift from the universe, and Haru, ever the good-natured mark, just laughed and said thank you as if he'd been handed a lucky charm instead of a felony. He knew, somewhere beneath the sunshine smile, that a real samurai wouldn't wander off with fungi in his pocket while on a mission of mercy, but the ache of who he used to be gets easier to ignore when you're cracking jokes about
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Excess made armor. The Glutton Fight fighters wear their hunger on the outside — not for food, but for everything the Dojo offers.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Demon woman, half revealed. The Hannya Half Mask fighters show the monstrous half and keep the human half private.
Time made visible, flowing. Flowing Dreads fighters carry their history in motion — every lock a year, and the years are moving now.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
