Diary
Every dawn Haru sits cross-legged in the Degen Dojo's cluttered meditation corner, surrounded by empty cans and half-rolled papers, insisting today's the day he finally arranges his thoughts like a proper samurai would. He calls it his charisma ritual, grinning wide as he stacks scattered ideas into something resembling wisdom, though most days it collapses into a pile of jokes and half-finished pep talks before the incense even burns out. Still, he swears it worked once, some golden morning when clarity actually clicked into place, and he's been chasing that ghost ever since, relighting the same stick of hope daily. The other fighters tease him for reliving a single good moment like it's scripture, but Haru just laughs it off, because underneath the grin is a warrior who remembers discipline and hates how far he's drifted from it. He fails at stillness almost every single day, tokes creeping in where meditation should be, yet he shows up again tomorrow, cheerful and stubborn, certain this time the thoughts will finally sit still like they used to.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
Ceremonial. The Shaman Soup fighters bring ritual to combat — the soup is prepared according to tradition and served at room temperature.
