Diary
Haru grins the way other men grip swords, white-knuckled and permanent, so when he tells you he nearly died chasing his mistress across the tatami mats, he says it like a punchline instead of a eulogy. She'd rugged him at dawn again, sake-sweet and gone, and he'd slid across the floor in his socks like a degenerate otter, missing the brazier by inches and his own dignity by a mile. Bruised spine, singed eyebrow, and still he popped up laughing, because the alternative is admitting the old discipline he buried under weed smoke and empty cups actually misses him back. He's vowed, loudly and often, to become a better man this week, same as he vowed last week, journaling his intentions on a napkin before using said napkin to wipe ash off his knee. Ask Haru how the self-improvement's going and he'll flash that same relentless smile, iron rattling faintly underneath, and tell you today's the day, for real this time, probably.//
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The organization runs deep. The Yakuza Tattoo Sleeve fighters have commitments that predated the Dojo and will outlast it.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
