Diary
Haru grins the way he always grins, wide and blinding, even as he retells the night he peeled his kimono off right there in the family shrine room and let his ancestors' portraits witness a degenerate's victory dance over a lucky floor sweep. His mother's disappointment could have leveled Kyoto, but Haru just laughed louder, cracked a joke about aping into shame instead of index funds, and pretended the sting was nothing but sunburn. Every morning since, he swears this is the day he finds the quieter life, wakes at dawn, folds his robes with monk-like care, and makes it exactly four minutes before a rerun of last night's dice game lures him back into chaos and bad decisions. He still meditates, technically, cross-legged on the porch with a lukewarm can of something he shouldn't be drinking, cheeks aching from the smile he refuses to drop. Underneath all that sunshine is a soldier who misses discipline like a severed limb, but he'll be damned if he lets anyone see the wound while there's still a grin to hide behind.
A paper earring from the Dojo itself. Fragile. Replaceable. The fighters who wear them understand that what looks disposable can last forever.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Demon woman, half revealed. The Hannya Half Mask fighters show the monstrous half and keep the human half private.
After. The Messy fighters' hair tells you what happened — not what they planned, but what they went through.
