Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he'd earned a single inch of the name, and somewhere between the fifth onigiri and the ninth cup of shochu, he decided the universe was simply psychic. At the Darkness Festival, lanterns swinging like drunk fireflies, he stood ready to unsheathe his blade for the ceremonial bout, and then a woman walked by in a fox mask and his mojo packed its bags without leaving a note. He tried to meditate it back the old samurai way, cross-legged behind the food stalls, but his mind kept wandering to soft laughter and takoyaki grease on someone's fingers. Disgraced, bloated with shame and dumplings, he announced to anyone who'd listen that seppuku was the only honorable exit, then spent forty minutes arguing with himself over whether to do it before or after one more skewer of yakitori. In the end Fat Bob didn't die that night, he just apologized to his sword, patted his belly like an old friend, and promised discipline would return right after this one, final, absolutely last festival snack.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The red Oni rages where the blue Oni waits. The Red Oni Tattoo fighters run hot and they are at peace with this.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Mastery without ceremony. The Kung Fu Master fighters stopped needing to prove the title long before anyone stopped asking for proof.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
