Diary
Masumi tells it plain, because plain is the only currency he trusts anymore: he lost his integrity arguing with samurai at sunset, and everyone clapped like it was a win. The argument was small, some dead debate about honor and floors and whether either still existed, but he pressed it past the point of dignity, past the point of the sun itself, until the old blades just sighed and let him have it. He remembers thinking that was the moment he finally understood the market, that respect and self respect are never priced the same, and you can only afford one. The Dojo cheered him for it, slapped his back, called him bold, and he stood there hollow as a rugged wallet, aching for the discipline he used to carry like a second spine. He still trains every dawn, badly, joints creaking louder than his resolve, because somewhere underneath the gloom he keeps hoping the argument he wins next time will be with himself.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Half the statement. The Skull Sleeve fighters communicate their philosophy in one arm — the other arm is for whatever needs doing next.
'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
Ancient discipline, modern retention. The Braided Samurai Ponytail fighters maintain something traditional precisely because the world keeps trying to make them let it go.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
