Diary
Masumi had trained his blade under moonlight once, in a life that now feels like someone else's rumor, and the irony is not lost on him that the only midnight duel he's had in years ended with his elbow snapping like a cheap chopstick against Junichiro's shin. There was no honor in it, no clean arc of steel, just two drunk men circling a parking lot behind a pachinko parlor, arguing about whose turn it was to buy the next round of shochu before fists somehow got involved. He remembers the sound most clearly, a wet crack that seemed to announce, with perfect clarity, exactly how far he'd fallen from the disciplined swordsman he used to be. The shame doesn't fade with the bruise; if anything it calcifies, the way regret does when you're sober enough at 3 a.m. to know better and still don't leave. He tells himself this is the last brawl, the last bottle, the last humiliation, and he almost believes it, the way a man believes the floor won't rug him twice in the same week.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The organization runs deep. The Yakuza Tattoo Sleeve fighters have commitments that predated the Dojo and will outlast it.
'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
Broad shade, broad vision. The Wide Kasa Fisherman fighters cover more ground with their hat than most cover with their plans.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
