Diary
Masumi noticed the rash while mid-swing, some blooming red archipelago across his forearm, and he registered it the way he registered everything: as further evidence. He finished the ronin anyway, because there is a certain discipline in following through on violence even when your body is clearly betraying you, and he wiped his blade on a tapestry that did not belong to him. Afterward he sat at the sake house bar, rash throbbing in time with his pulse, and asked the innkeeper for advice about his future, receiving only a shrug and a bill for the tapestry. He thought about the old dojo, the master who once told him discipline was a river you step into daily, and reflected that his river now smelled like spilled sake and had a rash-shaped tributary running through it. He decided the future was probably fine, in the sense that all things end, and ordered one more round to celebrate not knowing which end was coming first.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Wealth made garment. The Money Kimono fighters wear their wins literally — the fabric is a record, not a boast.
'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Time made visible, flowing. Flowing Dreads fighters carry their history in motion — every lock a year, and the years are moving now.
