Diary
Masumi will tell you, flatly, that the snake was never the problem. The snake was just doing what snakes do, which is more discipline than Masumi had managed in three years, biting him clean in the dojo latrines while Fred somewhere cackled off-panel like a man who'd finally rugged a friendship for content. That was the day the mojo left, not with drama, just a quiet exit through the fang marks, the way most good things leave a degen life. He tried meditating on it once, cross-legged by the latrine door out of some grim nostalgia, lasted four minutes before the weed and the ache in his ankle agreed he was better off horizontal. Now he lives one day at a time, which sounds like wisdom until you realize it's just what's left when you've given up planning any of the others.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The standard-bearer. The Proud Dejen Kimono fighters represent the collection consciously — they know what they're part of and they dress accordingly.
'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The warrior and the wanderer. Worn by those who are between destinations but never between fights.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
