Diary
Masumi built his name the honest way on Misty Mountain, ambushing degens fresh off a pump and relieving them of bags they never deserved in the first place, and he did it with the flat, unblinking calm of a man reading a grocery list. He tells anyone who asks that robbery up there wasn't cruelty, just math: fools plus fog plus overleveraged confidence equals an easy toll booth. There was a version of him, once, that woke at dawn to drill sword forms until his shoulders screamed, but that version got rugged by peace time same as everyone else's discipline did. Now he sits at the base of the mountain telling himself tonight is the night he finally skips the sake and meditates instead, and by the second cup he's already laughing bitterly at how predictable that lie was going to be. He counts his stolen floor-price winnings, pours another drink, and admits with total clarity that the only thing he robbed cleaner than those degens was his own future.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The organization runs deep. The Yakuza Tattoo Sleeve fighters have commitments that predated the Dojo and will outlast it.
'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
The disguise is the identity. The Degen Superhero glasses fighters have a secret — or maybe the secret is that there's no secret and they've always been exactly this.
Nothing hidden. No armor above the neck. The Bald fighters face everything without cover and consider this the only honest approach.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
