Diary
Masumi challenged the dojo master at the Fight Pits because some quiet, stupid part of him still believed in redemption arcs, and the quiet, stupid part of him lost, same as always. Now he sits in the wreckage of that decision, back aching like a floor price after a rug, watching the smoke from his weed curl up toward a ceiling he's pretty sure is also disappointed in him. He tells himself tomorrow he starts training again, real discipline, sunrise katas, the whole samurai reboot, but he has told himself this every tomorrow since the wars ended and the streak remains unbroken. The dojo master didn't even look tired beating him, which Masumi finds the bleakest detail of all, worse than the bruises, worse than the diamond-handed heartbreak of expecting a plot twist that never comes. He exhales, watches the future arrive exactly as gray as he predicted, and figures at least he called it, which is the closest thing to a win he's had in weeks.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
No clothing needed. The Shirtless Runt fighters removed every layer between themselves and the fight. Maximum exposure. Maximum honesty.
'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Broad shade, broad vision. The Wide Kasa Fisherman fighters cover more ground with their hat than most cover with their plans.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
