Diary
Masumi seduced a woman in the garden the way he did most things, thoroughly and without much forethought, and afterward some ancient bushido reflex kicked in and told him to be honorable about it. He proposed marriage on the spot, voice flat as a rice paddy, because that seemed like the correct move in whatever samurai rulebook was rotting in the back of his skull. She said yes, and he has been dying slowly ever since, one honorable breakfast at a time. He tells anyone who asks that discipline is a floor that never holds, that virtue rugs you the moment you actually try to live inside it, and he says this while folding her laundry with the joyless precision of a man defusing a bomb. Somewhere in the garden a cherry blossom falls exactly on schedule, and Masumi watches it and thinks, correctly, that even beauty is just decay moving in slow motion, and honestly, he adds, so is he.”
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The organization runs deep. The Yakuza Tattoo Sleeve fighters have commitments that predated the Dojo and will outlast it.
'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The woven face-cover of the wandering monk. The Tengai Basket fighters reveal nothing above the shoulders and everything through how they move.
Organization-issue. The Yakuza Club fighters have backup in the weight of the weapon itself — it carries institutional authority.
