Masumi cracked somewhere behind the shoji doors of Nagoya, right at the seam where the mask he wore for the daimyo met the face he actually owned, and nobody noticed the sound because it was quiet, like everything true. He tells people he is looking for a quieter life now, which is accurate in the way a eulogy is accurate: technically correct, deeply sad, said with a straight face. He tried meditation for eleven minutes once and used the silence mainly to calculate how much he'd lost aping into a coin called $BUSHIDO the night before, floor already gone, hopes rugged along with it. His swordsmanship is still flawless, cold and clean as ever, but discipline off the mat has the structural integrity of wet rice paper, and he knows it, and he says so, because lying about it would require the very performance that broke him in the first place. So he sits behind whatever doors are left, half a monk and half a punchline, waiting for the quiet to actually arrive instead of just being the thing he keeps announcing.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
