Diary
Igor does not talk about the mamasan near the Dojo, not because it is a secret, but because there is nothing left to say once a man has watched his own mojo walk out the door and not look back. He had discipline once, real discipline, the kind that held a blade steady before dawn in some Kyoto winter nobody remembers anymore, and he thought that same steel would hold up fine in a dim room full of perfume and bad decisions. It did not. Somewhere between the sake and the promises he made himself about staying sharp, he got rugged by his own ego, floor of his composure gone, liquidity of his confidence drained to zero. Now he just sits at the edge of the mats, weathered and quiet, and when the younger fighters ask what happened he only says the room got smaller and so did he, and that is the last anyone gets out of him on the matter.”
Collected. Not borrowed. The Foes Teeth fighters carry proof of every fight they've won around their neck and find it a useful conversation starter.
The rarest natural background. The Rising Sun fighters arrived first — before the floor was set, before the derug, before the community existed. They are the reason it exists.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Seasonal. Fleeting. Beautiful because it ends. The Autumn Sakura Kimono fighters understand that the things that don't last are what make things matter.
The other Igor — the lean one, who earned the word Veteran inside the dojo rather than bringing it with him. He's never explained what it refers to, and nobody's asked twice.
Gold-edged, elevated. The Pompous Glasses fighters have earned the right to look down at something and have chosen to look down at mediocrity.
Architecture on the scalp. Each knot a decision. The Black Bantu Knots fighters make their choices visible at the top, where everyone can see.
Direct. No ambiguity. The Axe fighters made a decision about what kind of fighter they are and the axe confirms it every time.
