The sake house went quiet the way it always did when Igor decided to speak, which was rarely and usually at someone's expense. That night the target was Itsuki, who had bet the last of his ryo on a hand he had no business playing, and Igor let the silence sit before he laughed, low and dry, like gravel shifting. Between insults he was already building something, half a plan sketched in the condensation rings on the table, the kind of scheme only a man who once commanded soldiers could dream up while three cups deep. He does not call himself disciplined anymore, hasn't in years, but the old instinct for strategy never left him, it just learned to live in a dive bar instead of a war room. By the time Itsuki stopped sulking, Igor had already moved on, title earned, plan formed, dignity somewhere at the bottom of an empty cup he had no intention of explaining.
