Diary
They call him Igor The Veteran, and no one asks how he earned it; the room simply goes quiet when he sets down his cup. His integrity was intact until the afternoon he stopped to talk with Haru on the beach, and by the time the tide came back in he had aped his savings into whatever the boy was hawking and rugged himself in a single lazy conversation. Now he plans to open his own dojo, a place of order and honor, though the plans keep dissolving into cheap weed and cheaper bets before the first wall goes up. He tried once to draw up the founding scrolls at dawn, sober and straight-backed, and by noon he had wagered the ink on a dice throw and lost. The vets still nod to him, still fall silent, and he lets them believe the dojo will be real one day.
A paper earring from the Dojo itself. Fragile. Replaceable. The fighters who wear them understand that what looks disposable can last forever.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
Worn by the 42 Framed and no one else. A Dojocho (道場長) runs the dojo, and red is the belt you stop counting toward. Framed cards never crack, so this one never comes off.
The other Igor — the lean one, who earned the word Veteran inside the dojo rather than bringing it with him. He's never explained what it refers to, and nobody's asked twice.
Explicit in every sense. The Fuck It Kimono fighters made a communication choice and wore it. No ambiguity. No apology.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,468 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
War god's spear. Divine reach. The Bishamon Yari fighters have authorization from something older than the Dojo.
