Diary
Junichiro insisted on measuring the room before he would even sit, counting the tatami seams with the same eye he once used to grade his own katas, and only then did he allow himself to climb into The Old Dragon's own bed to speak with him, as if proximity to greatness could be earned by posture alone. He left that chamber taller in the spine, status ticked up like a floor price after a whale ape, and immediately began drafting a syllabus titled Degen Discipline: Module One, complete with footnotes no one asked for. He tells himself he will teach these gambling, weed-hazed rabble the precision his father drilled into him at dawn, back when a crooked stance meant a week of rice and silence, but even as he lectures he catches his own hand trembling toward the sake cup he swore he'd abandoned. Every student he corrects is really a mirror he can't stop polishing, each error in their form a smaller echo of the discipline he lost somewhere between the last war and his first bad bet. Still he stands before them, chin high, pretending the man teaching restraint isn't the same man who just rugged his own resolve for the third time this week.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Organization ink made visible. The Black Yakuza Sleeves fighters belong to something — a code, a history — and they advertise their membership without speaking.
'Junichiro' — pure first son, the standard the others are measured against, usually by Junichiro himself. Flawless form, cleanest blade, a line that held because he'd sooner die than break it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Practical and armed. The Hair Bun With Chopsticks fighters put utensils in their hair and call it hair care — the dual function is not accidental.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
