Diary
Junichiro had spent a lifetime grading the world in decimal points, so when he finally locked eyes with Oleg astride that absurd, snorting horse, he felt the strange click of a calling sliding into place, the way a blade settles into its saya. He told himself it was destiny, though privately he suspected it was just the first thing in years he hadn't measured himself failing at. He keeps a ledger now, technique scored out of ten, discipline out of ten, days sober out of ten, and the last column is always the cruelest, always the one he rounds down. Every dawn he vows to meditate before the market opens, to skip the pre-noon joint, to not check the floor price of some dead JPEG before his stance drills, and every dawn he is, without fail, exquisitely, proudly bad at keeping that vow. Still he squares his shoulders toward Oleg's memory and toward tomorrow, certain that better days are coming, certain he will grade himself an honest ten on the day he finally believes it.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Explicit in every sense. The Fuck You Kimono fighters made a communication choice and wore it. No ambiguity. No apology.
'Junichiro' — pure first son, the standard the others are measured against, usually by Junichiro himself. Flawless form, cleanest blade, a line that held because he'd sooner die than break it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The farmer's crown. The Rice Hat fighters carry tradition on their head without ceremony — it's just what you wear when you have work to do.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
