Diary
Junichiro was, by his own precise and frequently updated ledger, three clean decisions away from the shogunate, and he blames the fourth decision, which involved sake, a borrowed lute, and a courtesan's window at an hour no disciplined man should be awake, let alone singing. He still recites the calculation to anyone who will listen: subtract one serenade, add one correct night's sleep, and the throne was his by a margin he considers embarrassingly comfortable. Now he measures other fighters with a cold, appraising eye, docking points for sloppy footwork and slower reflexes, while privately grading himself on a scale so unforgiving that even his victories feel like near-misses. His answer to disgrace is, naturally, a dojo of his own design, blueprints already drawn in obsessive right angles, schedules color-coded, a founding philosophy of total discipline typed and retyped at 3 a.m. with an empty jug at his elbow. He will open it any day now, he swears, right after this next drink, this next round of self-improvement, this one last night that absolutely will not end with him serenading someone else's window again.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Left the order. Didn't stop fighting. The Dejen Apostate fighters broke from whatever school trained them and found that the training stayed anyway.
'Junichiro' — pure first son, the standard the others are measured against, usually by Junichiro himself. Flawless form, cleanest blade, a line that held because he'd sooner die than break it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Extinct power, still present. The Sabertooth Skull fighters wear something that doesn't exist anymore — which means they carry it forward.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
