Diary
Junichiro once measured every cut of his blade against the strict geometry of his father's teachings, and even now he cannot eat a meal without grading his own form. The night it happened, he was hunched over a mountain of chicken inside the Dojo, grease on his knuckles, form utterly abandoned, when a thieving monkey lunged for the last piece and met his short blade on pure reflex, a single clean strike he still privately scores an eight out of ten for economy of motion. He told himself the discipline was still there, buried under the sauce and the shame, but the elders' silence after that told him otherwise. Now he runs a gambling den so dirty the floors apologize to your sandals, dealing cards with the exact posture of a man once destined for greatness, correcting other men's cheating with the same clipped precision he once corrected his own footwork. He tells himself running a den with standards is its own kind of discipline, and he almost believes it, right up until he catches his own reflection in the sake bottles and finds, again, that the harshest judge in the room is always him.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Traditional footwear made into a statement. The Strap On Geta fighters move in a way that makes noise — deliberate, rhythmic, impossible to miss.
'Junichiro' — pure first son, the standard the others are measured against, usually by Junichiro himself. Flawless form, cleanest blade, a line that held because he'd sooner die than break it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Ancient discipline, modern retention. The Braided Samurai Ponytail fighters maintain something traditional precisely because the world keeps trying to make them let it go.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
