Raikou used to be a blade for hire, all discipline and dojo bows, until the wars ended and the only battles left were against his own couch. One lazy afternoon, chasing a rumor of loose coin under some forgotten bridge, he crouched in the mud like a monk seeking enlightenment, or maybe just seeking gas money, and something in him shifted. He found three crumpled yen and a strange, thrilling clarity, like the floor finally hit bottom and bounced. Now he says the bridge taught him virtue, that scarcity is the truest sensei, though he still apes into every dice game at the teahouse hoping for another spiritual awakening. He calls it balance: one hand on the dharma, the other reaching for the next bag, forever failing to hold both.”
