Diary
Raikou climbed the Dojo Towers like a man aping into a floor he hadn't checked, blunt tucked behind his ear like a pencil of pure intention, fully convinced enlightenment was just one challenge match away. He faced the dojo master with the serenity of a monk and the footwork of a man who'd skipped every practice for a nap, and somewhere between his third breath and his first swing his elbow met the floor at a very unbudget angle. The snap echoed through the tower like a rug pull nobody saw coming, yet Raikou just lay there giggling, staring at his bent arm like it was a new chart pattern he had to meditate on. He calls it his awakening now, tells anyone who'll listen that pain is just unclaimed karma, though the dojo master calls it Tuesday and keeps his distance. These days Raikou still vows to train at dawn, to find discipline again like some long lost seed phrase, but dawn keeps showing up and he keeps showing up late, elbow crooked, spirit unbothered, floor undefeated.
Worn as trophy or warning — nobody is quite sure which. The Chicken Bones fighters have a ceremony for everything and share it with no one.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Self-described. The Womanizer clothing is a declaration that the fighter has a particular relationship with the world and considers this worth advertising.
'Raikou' — lightning light. He moved slow and easy right up until the instant he didn't, and then it was over. These days he's mostly slow, and swears the smoke helps him think.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
Elevated tradition. The High Straw Rice Hat fighters dress high above their own heads — everything they do is reaching upward.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
