Diary
Up on the dojo roof, under a sky doing absolutely nothing productive, Raikou had gone looking for The Kingpin with a plan built on vibes alone, which in hindsight was not so much a plan as a rumor he told himself. He rolled up slow, exhaled a little cloud like some ancient scroll unfurling wisdom, and by the time enlightenment was supposed to kick in, so was The Kingpin, lightning fast, and Raikou's mojo got rugged clean off the roof before he even loaded his stance. He sat there afterward staring at the empty space where his edge used to be, nodding like a man who just got liquidated and decided to call it a spiritual lesson instead. Somewhere in his bones the old samurai discipline whispered train tomorrow, breathe, refocus, and somewhere closer, louder, his stomach whispered sake, and honestly the sake whisper had better marketing. So down the ladder he goes, robe dragging, dignity floor-priced, already rehearsing the toast he'll give his sorrows once he finds a cup big enough to drown the whole rooftop in.
Without the gold. The Jesuit Crosses fighters have the same conviction but carry it lighter — the weight is in the belief, not the metal.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The standard-bearer. The Proud Dejen Kimono fighters represent the collection consciously — they know what they're part of and they dress accordingly.
'Raikou' — lightning light. He moved slow and easy right up until the instant he didn't, and then it was over. These days he's mostly slow, and swears the smoke helps him think.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo's version of a mohawk. More specific, more named. The Dejen Mohawk fighters chose the Dojo's interpretation of rebellion over the generic one.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
