Diary
Serious Oleg does not remember the grey mists as a mistake. He remembers them as a lesson delivered by four bandits and his own swollen pride, a lesson he intends to honor with the gravity it deserves. He had counted his blade-strikes before the fight the way a monk counts prayers, certain of victory, and the mist swallowed that certainty whole along with two of his ribs. Now he sits at the dojo bar with the posture of a man meditating on impermanence, ordering sake with the solemnity of a funeral rite, insisting through gritted teeth that this is discipline, that grief has a proper form and he is simply executing it. He will fail to stop at one cup, as he always does, and tomorrow he will train twice as hard to make up for it, grave and humorless and utterly, magnificently missing the point.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
Every cracked card. White is the beginner's belt, and torn is how the crack left it, border and all: a White card is never printed. A repair earns Blue.
Of all the Olegs, the one who never got the memo any of it was supposed to be funny. He made war a vocation — grave, total, and frightening for exactly that reason.
Memento mori made fashionable. The Skull Kimono fighters remember what's at stake and wear the reminder so they never forget.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Wild, electrified. The Mohikan fighters' hair moves independently and the fighter has accepted that this is appropriate.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,468 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The weighted hook-blade on a rope. Distance and cutting in one weapon. The Heavy Kyoketsu fighters control range — nothing happens at a distance they didn't set.
