Diary
In a Nagoya capsule hotel that smelled of instant ramen and regret, Shitless Botan performed the ritual he called discipline: catching his own piss in a chipped teacup, toasting the moon like the old dojo masters once toasted victory. He tells people fear left his body years ago on some forgotten battlefield, and maybe that's true, because most men would have flinched when the cup slipped and his finger folded backward against the tatami with a crunch loud enough to wake the floor below. He just looked at the bone poking sideways, sniffed the spilled contents on the floor, and said, calmly, that waste not want not, then finished what remained in the teacup anyway. The samurai in him wanted purification, cold water, silence, a blade sharpened at dawn; the degen in him wanted content, so he livestreamed the whole thing captioned 'wellness journey, day one.' He will never be the same, not because of the finger, which healed crooked and proud, but because now the whole internet knows exactly what he's capable of when he says he's 'getting back on track.'
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Traditional footwear made into a statement. The Strap On Geta fighters move in a way that makes noise — deliberate, rhythmic, impossible to miss.
'Botan' — a peony, a beautiful flower on a genuinely terrible situation. Somewhere in the wars he saw a thing that removed his fear permanently and never gave it back.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Color and structure combined. The Orange Bantu Knots fighters make their warmth architectural.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
