Diary
They called him Azuma once, the east, the promise of sunrise over disciplined ranks, but the man who answers now prefers the slower truth: he is not the dawn, he is what curdles after it. That winter he knelt in the frost behind the dojo ruins, daring himself through jar after jar of wasabi like it was some ritual of penance disguised as a bet, green fire searing a throat that used to recite sutras and now only recites trash talk. He told himself this was discipline, mind over sinus, a true samurai's tolerance reforged in degeneracy, right up until the cold seized his numbed arm and the ice took the rest of the decision out of his hands, snapping bone with the same indifference wasabi shows mercy. He didn't scream so much as hiss, already grinning through tears, already texting the boys that he'd gotten rugged by root vegetable and frostbite in the same breath. Discipline was supposed to be the sword he still carried, but out there in the snow he proved, again, that his real blade is patience, poison, and the punchline arriving long after the pain already has.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Wealth made garment. The Money Kimono fighters wear their wins literally — the fabric is a record, not a boast.
Another east, but where Drooling Azuma's is the honest sunrise, Toxic's is where the reaction happens — the direction things curdle. Same name, entirely different chemistry.
The disguise is the identity. The Degen Superhero glasses fighters have a secret — or maybe the secret is that there's no secret and they've always been exactly this.
Named for sensation. The Splitting Axe Ache fighters' hair is named for how their opponents feel after they're done.
Games within games. The Chō-Han Gambling Dice fighters turned the casino into the armory and find this philosophically consistent.
