Toxic Azuma never let a silence sit unpoisoned, and it was that old itch that undid him when he mocked a graying samurai's stance outside the Dojo, sneering that the man's kata looked like a rug pull in slow motion. The bet had been simple, whoever cracked first at the sake table owed the other a season of discipline, and Azuma cracked first with a joke so venomous it curdled the rice wine in the cups around him. Now he wakes each morning swearing off the toxins that made his name, chewing greens instead of grinding weed into his palm, sipping bitter tea where whiskey once lived, chasing a clean sunrise he was never built to greet. It never sticks; by noon he is back to muttering slow, corrosive nothings about everyone's form, telling himself that healthy pleasures are just poisons with better PR. Somewhere beneath the sarcasm the old soldier still stands at attention, aching for the straight spine he traded for a punchline, waiting for a bet he might actually want to win.
