Diary
The blade found Toxic Azuma exactly where discipline is supposed to protect a man, alone in his own quarters at Azuma-tei, pressing wrinkles from a kimono he had not worn in months, its silk gone dull as an untraded floor bid. He did not scream when the steel went in, only exhaled slowly, like a man who finally understood the punchline of a joke he had been telling himself for years. The iron kept hissing on the board while his blood pooled dark and patient across the tatami, corrosive and unhurried, the way everything about him tends to arrive. He tells the other fighters now that the wound taught him humility, that he bows lower, drinks less sake before dueling, folds his kimono properly instead of leaving it aped in a corner. But the sleeves still lie crooked, the sake cup still refills itself in his hand, and the only thing he's truly mastered is convincing people that his slow-acting menace was ever, even for a moment, sunrise.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Not a garment — a record. The Battle Scars clothing is what's left after everything else was stripped away. These fighters wear their history.
Another east, but where Drooling Azuma's is the honest sunrise, Toxic's is where the reaction happens — the direction things curdle. Same name, entirely different chemistry.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Crow spirit, long nose, ancient power. The Tengu Mask fighters are wearing something that predates the Dojo — something older that chose to be here.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
