Diary
Azuma never woke to sunrises, only to the slow curdle of consequence, and the night he dreamed of glory in the streets was no different, honor gilded and gleaming until the dream turned feral and a monkey darted through it wearing his own dead sensei's face. He stabbed it without thinking, the way poison doesn't think, it just travels, and when he woke his blade was clean but his hands smelled like betrayal and bad sake. The other fighters laughed about it for a week, called him the samurai who fought fruit thieves in his sleep, and he let them, because the truth curdling underneath was worse: he'd been chasing a dojo-shaped ghost so hard he'd swung at shadows and hit something small and innocent instead. He tells himself he knows better now, sits some mornings with his back straight and his mind still, discipline reasserting itself for maybe four minutes before the joint gets passed and the old rot creeps back in, slow, patient, exactly like him.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
Another east, but where Drooling Azuma's is the honest sunrise, Toxic's is where the reaction happens — the direction things curdle. Same name, entirely different chemistry.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Not born with them. Became them. The Grey Oni Horns fighters grew their nature slowly until it became structural.
Musical instrument. Strung instrument. The Shamisen fighters understand that performance and violence are not opposites — they are the same act in different registers.
