Diary
Azuma had promised himself, cross-legged before Goro's family shrine, that tonight he would be the picture of composure, a rusted katana of restraint sheathed politely at his side while rice steamed and elders murmured old prayers over the table. The vow lasted exactly as long as it took someone to mention the word tournament, at which point his knuckles found the low table's edge with a crack that silenced three generations of Gorou-family small talk at once. Blood bloomed dark across his rice bowl like a sunset no one asked for, and instead of shame he felt something warmer, slower, almost chemical, the particular thrill of watching pain arrive late and settle in like a toxin finding its favorite organ. He grinned through it, that corrosive grin of his, and told Goro's stunned grandmother it was tradition, an ancient eastern custom, purely spiritual, definitely not just a degenerate who forgot how to sit still at dinner. Discipline, Azuma has learned, is a sunrise he keeps sleeping through, but the reaction, the mess, the delicious slow burn after, that he never misses.
Heavier than gold. Less prestigious. More honest. The Iron Earring fighters chose function over signal and consider that to be the signal.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Organization ink made visible. The Black Yakuza Sleeves fighters belong to something — a code, a history — and they advertise their membership without speaking.
Another east, but where Drooling Azuma's is the honest sunrise, Toxic's is where the reaction happens — the direction things curdle. Same name, entirely different chemistry.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Elevated tradition. The High Straw Rice Hat fighters dress high above their own heads — everything they do is reaching upward.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
