Diary
They called him Azuma once because he rose like something clean, a blade catching the first light over the eastern ridge, but names outlive the men who earn them and now he is something slower, something that seeps rather than shines. Mid-blade-lock with Ikari in a snowfield that should have meant honor or death, some fool vendor appeared out of the whiteout hawking mushrooms, and Azuma, ever the connoisseur of bad timing, paused the duel to ape into a bag like it was a floor-priced mint. Ikari called him a coward for stalling the fight; Azuma called it strategic reallocation of violence into vibes, and technically nobody won, which felt correct. He meant to step back outside after, to find the discipline he buried somewhere between war and weed, but the Dojo's shadows agreed with him too well and the mushrooms kept blooming in his mind like a slow poison with no antidote and no rush. So he stays indoors now, sharpening a sword he never draws, telling himself tomorrow's the day he walks back into sunlight, knowing full well he is the reaction, never the dawn.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Blessed by the Dojo's own rites. The Ordained Dejen fighters carry something that can't be revoked — the Dojo recognized them and that recognition is permanent.
Another east, but where Drooling Azuma's is the honest sunrise, Toxic's is where the reaction happens — the direction things curdle. Same name, entirely different chemistry.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The warrior and the wanderer. Worn by those who are between destinations but never between fights.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
