Diary
Azuma had a name that meant sunrise, sharp and clean, but by the time the wars ended he'd curdled into something more like fallout, a slow corrosive haze that settled over anything he touched. On sparring day, the one day discipline was supposed to matter most, he found himself instead at a low table with The English Pilot, sake going down like it owed them both an apology, and the dojo simply stopped waiting for him. He remembers the phone call more than the drinking itself, the flat voice on the other end informing him his position had been given away like a floor price nobody bothered defending. The shame did not hit him like a blade, quick and honest; it hit him the way his own reputation always did now, hours later, quietly, rotting from the inside while he smiled through the hangover. He still tells himself tomorrow he'll wake early and drill kata before the sun's even up, and every single morning proves him a liar, corrosive right down to his own resolutions.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Explicit in every sense. The Fuck You Kimono fighters made a communication choice and wore it. No ambiguity. No apology.
Another east, but where Drooling Azuma's is the honest sunrise, Toxic's is where the reaction happens — the direction things curdle. Same name, entirely different chemistry.
Carried more than worn. The Pocket Glasses fighters have perfect vision when they choose to apply it — the rest of the time, they let instinct run.
The farmer's crown. The Rice Hat fighters carry tradition on their head without ceremony — it's just what you wear when you have work to do.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
