Diary
Young Yuji was born a half-decade too late for real glory, so he went looking for it anyway, katana traded for a busted lighter and eyes that never quite close at 3am. The night it all cracked open he was three bowls deep behind the local yakiniku, broke, buzzing, aped into a plan that felt righteous in the moment: shake down the old folks lined up for cheap grilled meat, call it a toll, call it fate. He watched their faces fold in on themselves as he took their coins, and something in his chest, some last thread tied to the dojo he never finished training in, snapped clean like a floor giving out under a rugged token. Now he wanders Kyoto's back alleys at four in the morning, unslept, muttering apologies to strangers who never asked for one, trying to rebuild a reputation the way a kid rebuilds a sandcastle after the tide already won. He swears tomorrow he starts meditating at dawn, swears it every night, and every dawn finds him instead chasing a high that already left the building, same as the war did, same as the honor he's still sprinting after with nowhere left to run.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The standard-bearer. The Proud Dejen Kimono fighters represent the collection consciously — they know what they're part of and they dress accordingly.
Still becoming, and always will be — the wars ended before he got to finish. All promise and no scars, certain his great chapter was over the next hill. The hill turned out to be the last one.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Nothing hidden. No armor above the neck. The Bald fighters face everything without cover and consider this the only honest approach.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
