Young Yuji was still swinging at ghosts of a war that folded before he ever got his real scar, and the night he caught Botan clean under the sakura he felt, for one blooming second, like the legend he was born eleven years too late to become. Then the petals kept falling on a man who wasn't getting up, and something in Yuji's chest rugged itself quieter than any floor he'd ever aped into, the confidence draining out of him like a bag he sold at the bottom. Now he doesn't sleep so much as haunt his own futon, scrolling old dojo footage at 4 a.m., swearing between bong rips that he's going to write a book about it all, The Boy Who Won and Felt Nothing, chapter one still unwritten past the title. He buys notebooks like they're conviction, three so far, all blank, all shoved under empty jugs and unopened envelopes from a discipline he keeps meaning to text back. Some nights he still stands under whatever tree's closest, throws a slow shadow punch at the guy he used to be, and laughs because the glory already left and forgot to leave a forwarding address.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
