Diary
Young Yuji still lays his old tatami mat out every night like the war might reopen just for him, like Sekigahara owes him one more sunrise to prove himself in. It never comes, so instead he lies there at 3am scrolling charts by candlelight, chasing green candles the way he used to chase glory, both of them running away from him at the same exact speed. He tells himself this is discipline, tracking positions like troop movements, journaling his losses like battle reports, but it is mostly just a kid who peaked at fifteen trying to feel that alive again in a body that never learned how to rest. Every morning he swears he will wake at dawn, meditate, sharpen the blade he never uses anymore, and every morning he instead wakes at noon smelling like weed and regret with a green candle tattooed behind his eyelids. Somehow, impossibly, sincerely, he says he's never felt better, and the terrifying part is that some mornings he almost believes it.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Soft exterior. The Puppy Kimono fighters discovered that disarming presentation is its own strategy — you stop seeing the threat until it's too late.
Still becoming, and always will be — the wars ended before he got to finish. All promise and no scars, certain his great chapter was over the next hill. The hill turned out to be the last one.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
After. The Messy fighters' hair tells you what happened — not what they planned, but what they went through.
