Diary
Yuji The Wise once carried a blade with the solemnity of a man who believed his hand would never shake, and now he carries a notebook, cataloguing the exact humidity, the phase of the moon, and the tactical genius of a beetle named Genghis who, on one legendary high-moon evening, out-wrestled every other bug in the Dojo courtyard. He narrates this triumph nightly to anyone within earshot, complete with dramatic pauses, as though recounting the fall of a shogunate rather than an insect scuffle fueled by cheap sake and a suspiciously large stash of weed. Yuji tells himself he will retire the story, will finally return to his old katas at dawn like a disciplined warrior should, yet dawn keeps arriving to find him instead sketching beetle formations in the margins of his war journal. He knows, with the clarity of a true scholar, that he has become the unreliable narrator of his own decline, mythologizing a bug fight the way lesser men mythologize lost empires. Still, when the moon climbs high and full, something old and samurai-shaped stirs in his chest, and for one night he lets himself believe the legend was real, because honestly, it was.
Sober, unlike the drunk variant. The Lizard fighters have a companion with excellent judgment who never asks for anything and always seems to know when to leave.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The name is the lore. The Poop Pride Kimono fighters have transcended embarrassment so completely that they wear the proof. Undefeated.
A fighter first and a thinker second — until the day he laughed with Haru in the streets and simply set the sword down for good. He calls it wisdom; some call it losing his nerve.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Broad shade, broad vision. The Wide Kasa Fisherman fighters cover more ground with their hat than most cover with their plans.
The soul of the Dojo. Folded ten thousand times. The blade remembers every holder it has passed through.
