Diary
Yuji The Wise climbed Mount Haku the way a proper scholar should, with a walking staff, a satchel of scrolls, and the vain hope that altitude might substitute for wisdom. At the summit he found Ikari already there, seated cross-legged and radiating the calm of a man who had rugged his own ego years ago and never looked back, and for three days they spoke of impermanence, discipline, and the folly of chasing floors that only ever go down. Yuji descended a changed man, or so he narrated to himself with great satisfaction, having transcribed the whole exchange into a leather journal titled Enlightenment: An Objective Account, Mostly. He knows better now, he tells anyone who'll listen, right before rolling a joint at the base of the mountain and explaining, in painstaking chronicler's detail, why this particular relapse is philosophically distinct from all his previous ones. The samurai in him writes footnotes about restraint while the degen in him aped into the good weed before the ink even dried, and Yuji records this contradiction too, because a true historian never flinches from documenting his own losing battle.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Not a garment — a record. The Battle Scars clothing is what's left after everything else was stripped away. These fighters wear their history.
A fighter first and a thinker second — until the day he laughed with Haru in the streets and simply set the sword down for good. He calls it wisdom; some call it losing his nerve.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The farmer's crown. The Rice Hat fighters carry tradition on their head without ceremony — it's just what you wear when you have work to do.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
