Diary
Once Yuuki charged real battlefields with the same flat, unblinking calm he now brought to the dojo roof at dawn, palm cocked, honor apparently riding on out-slapping Raiku the Stoner in whatever contest they had invented an hour before with too little sleep and too much shochu. He does not remember who threw the first slap or why bare chests seemed like the only fair terms, only that discipline, that old friend he keeps trying to court back, showed up just long enough to watch him lose. Now his nipples are raw and weeping like a man betrayed by his own bravery, and every wind off the tiles reads as personal insult. Still he stands tall, arms crossed over the damage, staring at the horizon as if it owes him answers about the war he could have had, the glory he could have earned, instead of this small red war fought and lost on a rooftop against a man who was, by all accounts, too weeded to even remember swinging. Yuuki wonders what could have been, then winces, then decides some legends are simply written in blood you didn't mean to spill.
Decorative. Traditional. The Tassel fighters know that ornament and function are not opposites — presentation is part of performance.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Wealth made garment. The Money Kimono fighters wear their wins literally — the fabric is a record, not a boast.
'Yuuki' means courage, earned the plain way: by stepping forward on the mornings every sane part of him voted to step back. Bravery, for him, was a decision made fresh each day.
Formal vision. The Spectacles fighters approached clarity with the same seriousness they bring to everything else — completely.
Tied before the fight. The Green Bandana fighters have a ritual of preparation — the bandana is how they mark the transition.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
