Diary
Assassin Fuzen once knelt before the main Buddhist temple and made the mistake every degen samurai eventually makes: he dreamed. Glory, he saw, gilded and certain, the kind monks warn you about between sutras, and he staked his whole treasury on that vision like it was a floor he could never lose. The temple bells rang the same the next morning, indifferent to men and their marks, while Fuzen's coffers sat as empty as a dojo after curfew. He does not rage, that is not his style; he simply sharpens his patience the way he once sharpened blades, and announces, with the calm of a debt collector who has all the time in the world, that he will now drink the sorrow down one cup at a time. Discipline, he tells himself, is merely a contract he has not yet closed, though the sake keeps getting there first.”
Heavy. Deliberate. The Golden Earring fighters wear their conviction in precious metal on the outside so everyone knows before they speak.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
Mint fighters with gold on them: a golden blade, gold earrings, a golden cross. Orange is the karate step before green, a flat orange-gold so the card prints the way it looks.
'Fuzen' means incompleteness, a joke at his own expense before it was a name. The blade sent for the jobs that had to be certain — left with one last name on his list when the wars ended.
Authority, loosely held. The Village Leader fighters are in charge of a place that mostly runs itself, and they take full credit every time it doesn't burn down.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Architecture on the scalp. Each knot a decision. The Black Bantu Knots fighters make their choices visible at the top, where everyone can see.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,468 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
