Edmundo had guarded worse gates than the ramshackle stalls of the market, but none had humbled him quite like the crate he tripped over mid ritual, cup in hand, honor on the line after losing a bet he barely remembers agreeing to. He drank his own piss with the grim discipline of a man who once stood watch through blizzards for his shogun, determined to prove that whatever was left of his samurai spirit could survive a dare, only to snap his finger clean against the stall's iron frame as he slammed the empty cup down like a battle cry. The market vendors laughed, the floor of his dignity rugged out from under him in one clumsy motion, and Edmundo stood there nursing his hand, foreign eyes narrowed in dry disbelief at what his life had become. Loyal to the old codes even in ruin, he now insists this indignity demands seppuku, though everyone around him suspects he'll settle for a stiff drink and a worse excuse tomorrow. Still, he sharpens his blade with the same watchful patience he once gave to real battles, muttering that at least this death would be on his own terms, unlike the finger.
