📖 Edmundo's Story

Edmundo comes from an old foreign word that means wealth and protection stitched together, and Edmundo guards something, though the answer to what changes depending on who is asking and how much they have had to drink. He arrived from somewhere else, an outsider with a sword and no lord in this land, and he did the sensible mercenary thing, which was to find the people worth standing in front of and stand there. When the wars ended, most men lost the thing they protected. Edmundo, who had already chosen his post freely, simply kept it. Now he guards the dojo, its door, its stash, its worst decisions, with the quiet diligence of a man who picked this family on purpose. He does not say much. He does not have to. He is the reason the trouble usually stays outside. He is iron-disciplined the entire time he is on watch and a complete disaster the moment he is off it, guarding everyone's virtue but his own, which nobody actually hired him to protect.
