Diary
Edmundo came from somewhere else entirely, a foreign blade who wandered into the Dojo's gates and simply never left, choosing loyalty the way most men choose regret. He was sane once, or close enough to it, before a misty morning when the sake ran loose and he spilled every secret he owned to a table of degenerate samurai who forgot half of it by sundown. Now he stands watch at the perimeter with dry, foreign-eyed humor, sober as a monk on the outside while his portfolio of shame quietly rugs him from within. His family back home still thinks he guards treasure and honor, not a dojo of drunks chasing floor prices on rice wine and calling it discipline. Every dawn he vows to write the letter explaining everything, and every dawn the mist rolls in again and the words stay locked behind his watchful, aching silence.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Minimum. Clean. The Fight Gi fighters believe that preparation is visible in the garment — this one says the fighter has done this before.
An old foreign word for wealth and protection stitched together. He guards something, though what changes depending on who's asking and how much they've had to drink.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Wild, electrified. The Zapachi fighters' hair moves independently and the fighter has accepted that this is appropriate.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
