Diary
Edmundo took his post the way he took everything in this country, one careful step removed from the noise, eyes scanning the crowd like a man reading terrain he'd never fully trust. Between the fish stalls and the shouting merchants he clocked Goro across the street, twitchy as a floor about to get rugged, and somewhere in that same glance a stranger slid him a little paper twist of mushrooms like it was the most natural transaction in Edo. He told himself this was reconnaissance, that a good guard studies his environment fully, chemicals included, and that tonight would mark the start of the disciplined new Edmundo, dawn stretches and cold tea and no nonsense. He pocketed the mushrooms anyway, filed Goro under watch closely, definitely unstable, and reminded himself that back home a man who guarded anything worth guarding never let his focus wander this easily. By the time he reached the barracks he'd already decided self improvement could start tomorrow, right after he found out exactly what these mushrooms did to a man who used to be a samurai and was now just very, very curious.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Maximum exposure by choice. The Nudey Freak fighters are not unclothed by accident — they made a considered decision and stand by it in all weather.
An old foreign word for wealth and protection stitched together. He guards something, though what changes depending on who's asking and how much they've had to drink.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo wrote on it. The Degen Graffiti Rice Hat fighters carry the collection's mark on the highest point of their body.
Musical instrument. Strung instrument. The Shamisen fighters understand that performance and violence are not opposites — they are the same act in different registers.
