Edmundo wasn't born to these islands, but he chose the post outside those shoji doors the way a man chooses a temple, and that's exactly why he remembers every detail of the night he shed his clothes and, in the same breath, betrayed his family. Now he keeps his katana oiled and his robe re-tied twice before every watch, a small ritual against repeating the unrepeatable, and it works right up until someone offers him a joint and a reason to forget the doors again. Loyal to a house that isn't his blood, haunted by a night he can't unwitness, Edmundo has never been the same, and honestly, watching him try to be, neither have the shoji doors.
